Yeah, life's been busy, but what with one thing and another the stress has been a bit better. Lewis hasn't been travelling, for one, and for another some of the heraldry issues are being resolved with the new Laurel team...
It's amusing, being friendly enough to one of the biggest heralds in the SCA to be able to say 'Evan, you're being a weejits-head' and get away with it. But then, it's _Evan_...
Spent a lot of time over the last few weeks gardening. Ow, but good results. Nearly the entire ivy garden is now a former ivy garden, thanks to a lot of help from
giselle0002. There's still a few good-sized chunks of the former mimosa tree in the middle of it, but I'm hauling it away piece by piece. The fight with the ivy isn't over by a long shot, but now I've got a chance to stay on top of it and pull pieces as they show up.
Went up to Frank's today and spent something on the order of seventy bucks on plants. Erk, I know, but it's a _lot_ of plants and just the veggies will probably make us that money back. And the flowers just _look_ so nice.
Put a pair of ... oh, bugger, now I forget the name already. Starts with an f, pink or purple flowers, usually in hanging baskets. They want partial shade so out front ought to work. Weeded a bunch out there.
Got a variety for the side garden. Some salvia, some marigolds, a whole bunch of geraniums. Those haven't gone in yet; that'll likely be tomorrow.
(Pause here to go out and see what I planted out front...fuschia. Pretty stuff.)
And the veggies...three beefsteak tomatoes, three grape tomatoes, three green peppers. Those went into the former ivy garden, giving me incentive to keep on top of the ivy. A lettuce mix and some spinach; those'll go in the little garden next to the house that doesn't get a lot of sun. Put a mint plant in the big pot. Got asparagus and broccoli seeds, though it may be too late to start those now.
And one 'hen & chicks' plant that says it's good ground cover; I'm hoping that'll take over a lot of the ivy garden, eventually.
What with one thing and another, a good day's work. Had a lot of spontaneous help from Lewis, too, which was happy.
The fledgeling exercise program is going well. Haven't lost any weight, but that'll come in time; I suspect I'm losing fat and putting on muscle, which I'm serene with. Two or three weeks ago I managed four fairly crappy push-ups; last night I did twenty good ones. Went from maybe eight situps to sixteen in the same time period. I haven't been counting the leg-lifts as closely since I do them at work, but I can tell they're having an effect. Even my knees are getting better; haven't had the left one go in over two weeks. And when I get enough sleep I have a lot more energy than I used to. Now, if I can just _stay_ with it during the busy season...
I told mom I want out. She's not real happy, but she didn't get mad and she didn't try to guilt me into staying. I told her I was leaving sometime in July. That'll give her maybe nine months to find someone before the next busy season. I think she'll do all right, especially if I keep doing the tough graphics stuff for her from home.
I figure I'll take time off until after Pennsic. I don't think I'll last longer than that without going stir-crazy. I'm going to be fairly picky about a job once I start looking, since I can afford to me. I might even head up to that trophy place up on Union and see if they want someone two days a week...
Next weekend is Southern Region Spring, and a Wreath meeting Sunday. Don't know if we'll make the Wreath meeting. Weekend after that is AEthelmearc War Practice, then War of the Roses. I _think_ we have a weekend or two off after that, though I'm not sure; then Landsknecht and KWHS and Bill and Andrea's wedding all in a row. Off until War Camp, then Pennsic. Then I get to sit down. Okay, there's a couple more Wreath meetings scattered through there, too...
Really, things _will_ slow down eventually. At least after the last month semi-off I've got the energy to survive until Pennsic...
