But first, a break to demolish some pallets, first, cos the wood will want a couple days to dry before I start putting it on the wall.

Look! Wood!

Eight boards of various widths & lengths lean against the inside wall of the tinker's wagon.

The daily commute.

A toolbag & a water bottle sit on the roof of the van. The front drivers side door is open; that's my ladder.

Easier & safer to scramble around on roofs without the boots on.

A really great pair of Manitobah Mukluks boots lay on the roof of the van. In front of them is my leg. I'm wearing black leggings & a grey wool sock. Well, two, but only one is in the picture.

This goes faster now that I know what I’m doing!

There's another sheet of plywood on the roof of the tinker's wagon. The view is from the side of the wagon, & level with the roof.

It is MOST of a roof now.

Another view of the roof, this time from on the roof itself. It's taken at an angle & basically there's plywood as far as the eye can see.

I sent this picture to my mom & my Aunt Ann because I’m mean.

The van roof, scattered with tools, boots, & the water bottle. It's very clearly taken by someone who was on the roof at the time. My family is very patient & very worried.

More wood!

This time there are fifteen boards leaning against the inside wall of the tinker's wagon.

Next up: yet more roof.

I’d REALLY like that.

Guess what I'm going to be doing if it ever stops raining here for long enough..
yup I have a workshop roof to replace and rebuild.

Because apparently, polycarbonate sheets leak like sieves around the edges unless you're really careful and know what your doing. Which I could have done with knowing about before I built half of the workshop roof out of them.

oh well.. live and learn.

Lots of timber rafters, heavy waterproof membrane [technically, it's an industrial grade tarp] and then sheet metal. Like 7 square meters of it.. [12 sheets of 125cm by 45cm] And probably a bucket load of bitumen based waterproof sealant/adhesive compound to seal the joints.

Possibly overkill, but I am sick of leaks.

Btw... if you're still working on your roof, might I suggest either overlapping the joints between the plywood sheets, or applying a waterproofing tape [or hemp sacking strips and cold application bitumen paint] to seal the joints between plywood sheets before you apply the waterproofing membrane over it. Not to stop the water coming in although it will do that, but to stop warm moist air from inside the wagon seeping up through the joints and condensing out under the membrane, forming a trapped layer of damp which would promote mold and rot.

Yeah, I've been researching roofing, having cocked up the first time.

Me too.. although in Britain, and in this bit of Yorkshire in particular, we get enough that you practically have to build an upside-down boat hull to keep it all out.

21 inches in four hours.. Yeesh!

Maybe... I swear, if I could build a place and money was no concern, NASA would want to borrow the plans to use as a Mars base.

As it is, I'm making do with upcycling stuff and cobbling together stuff from junk. 80% of my workshop is recycled timber, old chicken coops, fence panels.. stuff from skips. Most of what I've bought is hardware to hold it together, paint and roofing felt. Oh, and rafters, because I couldn't find any 4x2 in the right lengths for free.
