A bit back [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith wrote a post inviting people to post about their biggest goals for the year. Here's what I replied:

1) fix/upgrade my canvas booth tent (well underway, & further along now than it was this morning);

2) finish the new Vagabond Tabby website (moooostly done, needs some tweaking & testing);

3) make display shelves for use in the booth (in the 'keep having new ideas & changing my mind about everything' stage)

4) build the tinker's wagon I've been wanting for 93 years (picked out the trailer, have several sets of instructions on how to build such a thing)

1 & 2 should be done in the next couple weeks. 3 shouldn't take more than a couple weeks, unless whatever idea I settle on winds up entirely not working. 4 will be at LEAST the rest of the year; I hope to have something ready to bring to Estrella next year, even though I don't imagine it'll be DONE by then.

...if you're thinking that these all have a 'get the hell on the road' sort of thing in common? You would be correct.

But then, upon further reflection, I added this comment:

...it occurs to be that 'get the hell on the road' might be the _goal_ & these are the associated projects.

Which still feels more accurate. It's all about making my merchant booth easier to set up, more visually attractive, & more functional, & about giving me space on the road for work, carrying everything I need, & living.

<------------------------------------------>

In the meantime, I've made further progress on the goals in question:

2) The website is DONE. (Y'all can go take a look if you want.) I'm REALLY happy with it, how it looks & how it functions. Wordpress with WooCommerce is good tools for what I need & for my level of programming skill.

1) The booth tent got stalled for a while; there was just a Lot of Stuff going on & I didn't want to add another immediate project to the lot. Well, the next step began yesterday, when my partners picked up a couple of 9x12 painters tarps for me at Home Despot.

Today I'll measure out where they need to be cut to fit as side walls, which will be FAR easier with at least one if not both of my partners assisting, & then they'll get cut to size, & then it's a thousand years of handsewing canvas. Which is sucky & boring but well within my capabilities. Hypothetically if I had a sufficiently butch sewing machine, I could at least do the hemming with that, but I'd need to handsew the ties on anyways, & I know me, I'd handsew the hem anyway.

I also FINALLY gave in on the concept of making my own booth banner, since it hadn't happened for approximately 37 years straight, & found an inexpensive place to order one. That should be in in the next day or two, & I'll sew ties to the corners of it, & it's gonna look AWESOME.

3) Next up is still the shelves. Inoru found an ever-renewing source for pallets in Albuquerque. Big ones, some of them eight feet long. We could only grab a couple the last time we were in town, cos the van was mostly full, but there will always be more trips to town. In the meantime I'm preeeetty sure I know how I'm gonna do these. I'll need to set up a booth table & get actual measurements, & then see how much I can get done with the two pallets I have on hand.

This will also involve buying a sander. I hate the fkn things, vibration is BAD for Kates, but that's just way more hand sanding than I wanna do.

4) keeps getting put off. I've spent a LOT of money on business stuff this spring, a lot of catching-up things that I'd been putting off FAR too long in the interest of simple survival, & the thought of chucking a grand and a half at a trailer, even though I have it to spare, is slightly terrifying. I'll need to do my deep breathing there, & it likely won't happen until I've run out of other projects to distract myself with, but I'm slowly getting more comfortable with the concept (& also bringing my bank balance back up, NICE). I'll get there.

Wow, making your own tent seems really impressive. I'd love to see some photos of the process.

It's great you're making progress toward your goals.

So, where did you get the banner from? I'm looking for a place that does good, affordable, and most importantly, professional looking banners.
