Two weekends ago we went out to Pittsburgh to visit [livejournal.com profile] wanderingpixie and Jesse. Since Lewis had off that Friday, we figured we'd get out there midafternoon; good theory. It was actually closer to 8PM. Went out for stunning Thai food (happy good Pad Thai), watched Galaxy Quest. Absolutely hysterical. Got to bed really a bit late.

Woke up, also late, and got the laptop going. After a brief bit of non-excitement (me: How do I get the thing on the network? Jesse: I think it already is...) I started working on my NaNoWriMo outline. Couple hours later Lewis was up and wanting his turn on the thing, so I handed it over. We managed to do basically mostly nothing for several hours, then went out to Jo-Ann's, Half Price Books, and italian food. Up too late again.

Out too late the next morning, too, to make it to Lewis's mom's place to meet the new boyfriend as scheduled, but we pretty much knew we weren't gonna make lunch...so we showed up way late and got fed anyway. She'd spent the day before working out recipes for the feast for Poliudie so we got to, ahem, 'help her out' by trying things and telling her they were all really good. A truly horrifying afternoon.

Her new boyfriend reminds me unnervingly of Giacomo. Seems nice. Spend the demo talking to Tiernan. Did ape-imitations back at Derek. I think he's gonna be okay.

Got home, passed out.

I have nearly no recollection of how I spent most of the nights last week, except for plowing through Brechenmacher, occasional heraldic intrigue (the BoD is a _lovely_ thing, let me tell you), working on the outline for NaNoWriMo, intermittently cleaning my room, and commenting on the current Eastern ILoI.

[livejournal.com profile] giselle0002 showed up mid-late-afternoon. Sat around and talked until Lewis went home, went out to Waffle House for dinner. Got to sleep what felt like way too late and was probably around 10:30 or something depressing like that.

Woke up, goofed around on the computer for a while. Listened to Lewis downstairs, putting together a computer and explaining it all to Gise. Fairly amusing. Made it to 'showered and dressed' after a while and we went out to commence the day's activities.

We'd told Gise nothing about any of this ahead of time, mind you. :)

First we went to Merrymead Dairy for theit 5-acre corn maze. Walked around and looked at the animals, took a moment to be amused that Orville the pig was _distinctly_ female. Did the maze in something around an hour, finding all eight stations with questions and answering them all correctly. Ate ice cream - it was a _lot_ warmer out than we thought it was going to be, and the maze had warmed us up further. Got in the car and called my mom, which involved some confusion and rapid juggling of phones since Gise had the only functioning cell phone.

Visited Mom for a bit. She caught Lewis doing one of her crosswords. There was very nearly violence but he apologized sufficiently and she gave him an older one to mess with. Introduced Gise to Adam and Duncan and helped Mom figure out how to drape the curtains in the family room.

Took off for Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown. Tiny little zoo, pretty decent facilities for the animals, all of 'em native to North or Central America. Got slightly lost on the way there, but not dangerously so. Only a couple blocks where I really didn't want to stop the car.

Only had about an hour left to wander the zoo before they closed, but it was enough. Fed the animals in the petting zoo. One of the goats was particularly determined. Watched a fox try to convince himself that he could walk a swinging board to get a treat. (He'd made it by the time we wandered past later...) Heard pissed-off-cat sounds and followed them, and saw a highly-frustrated cougar in heat trying to talk the other (female) cougar in the pen to do something useful about it. Visited the big black girl-kitty we saw eating corn on the cob the last time we were there. Talked to the wolves for a while. (They didn't talk back.)

Got back in the car and headed to Ikea, after yet more oopsing and driving around the long way. Turns out Gise had her eyes closed that whole ride...so she didn't know we were there until we pulled into the lot. She'd never been there before, see...so it was Swedish meatballs for dinner, a nice long wander through the store punctuated by the purchasing of many candles, and big honkin' cinnamon buns for dessert.

Since our EZ-Pass is having Issues, we went home the non-turnpike way, up 309. Since this went right past Lewis's mom's house, we stopped there too, and Gise got to meet Da Boyfriend. (I suspect if we'd knocked on the door three minutes later, we might not have gotten an answer, but we'd've been fine with that...) Watched part of the Red Sox-Cards game and headed home. Went the hell to bed.

Didn't feel real good the next day, so I spent a lot of time sitting the hell down in front of the computer or in my chair with a book...Gise kept doing our dishes, despite us yelling at her. Okay, maybe we weren't yelling that much. She took off for home, and Lewis and I went out for food (Japanese, which my stomach later told me wasn't a good idea though it tasted really good at the time...)

Yesterday was catching up with Brechenmacher (partway through page 122, woo!), finishing the October commentary, and generally making things make sense before the first. Today was work, and among other things I managed just over 2000 words of backstory and character sketch during lunch. Woo! I'm much less worried about NaNoWriMo, now. For those of you who've expressed an interest, I might get part of that online tomorrow; it's on the computer at work and I didn't snag a copy.

Weekend in Pittsburgh

Hmpf. Never calls; never writes. :-) (And yeah, I'm just giving you a hard time. There's never enough time to do everything.)

I figured. She's too sweet.

Boy am I ever glad I took Vince to Spring War Camp that weekend. So many good things have come out of it.

I really need to look at which journal I'm logged in to when I comment.

Last weekend, at least, was certainly nicer for you than it was for some of us... *envious mutterings*
