Only ever written one poem I could stand, or at least only one I remember at this point. Couldn't find the thing, hadn't seen it in years...then I remembered I got ballsy and posted it to rec.arts.poetry long long ago. One quick Google Groups search later (actually about five, as I couldn't remember the damn words I used) and here 'tis...

Here Rests In Honored Glory An American Soldier Known But To God

I gave my life for peace,
Not for the flag, or for glory,
But glory is what they gave me.
They told me that war would bring peace,
And I fought their war, believing it would,
But all it brought was suffering and death.
Now, in death, I know the truth:
The only way to peace is through peace
And that doesn't depend on glory.
But they made of me a monument to war
To that lie they tell, that deception
That draws men into battle, and glory.
Now those who gave their lives believing that lie,
fighting in vain for the flag, and for glory,
Rest forever in peace.

I rest but in honored glory.

I'm not sure I agree with the thing any more, mind you, but what with one thing and another it seemed sort of aproros anyway...
