Boy, was it a weekend.

Saturday, as I mentioned in my last post, was a lot more yardwork. We've cleared enough branches and small trees and things that we should be able to grow grass in a lot more of the yard, instead of weeds and bare patches. It was a shiteload of work, though, and by the end of the day I hurt a bunch.

Sunday we took our time getting going. I did dishes, Lewis did not a lot. Eventually we got in the car to find a place to walk for a bit. We wound up stopping along the Delaware Calan in Easton, but we couldn't walk very much because the trail is closed. So we drove south on 611, which is one of my all-time favourite drives. It's lovely, along the river's edge with hills to the other side. A lot of nice houses.

After a while we saw a sign for Ringing Rocks. I hadn't been there since college and Lewis had never been, so we went. It's a big boulder field left over from glaciation, and the way the rocks are piled up, some of them _ring_ when you hit them with a hammer. Which we didn't have, so we just went walking over the rocks. It's been a long time; I used to be able to _dance_ over rocks like that. *sighs*

It was fun, though, and my legs didn't hurt near as much afterwards as I'd thought they would. And I only had to hit my inhaler once.

We drove around for a while and then headed to Target to use the gift card we got from my aunt and uncle after the wedding. Bought casserole dishes (proper ones) and some t-shirts for Lewis. On the way home there was a _huge_ double rainbow, one end of which was right ahead of us as we headed east on 22. We joked about staying on 22 to see if we could find the gold, but we were both tired, so we just headed home. Once we were off the highway we discovered that the _other_ end of the rainbow was pointing right at our house. By the time we got there, though, it was gone. No pot of gold.

I called Jodi and Lewis made sweet-and-sour chicken. We had a good time eating and talking and hanging out, and then there was baklava, and then we didn't get to bed until late.

Which was a mistake, since we'd decided to go to the zoo with Olwyn and Mary and Beth and Alis the next day, and we were gonna try to leave Olwyn's at 8:30. I didn't get near enough sleep and the alarm came way too early. But we got going in reasonable time and got to the zoo at about ten. Lewis and I decided to get a membership, so we'll be going back at some point.

We had a good time. Mary was pretty well-behaved for being three. The big cats are all elsewhere because their place is being rebuilt, but we saw little cats and medium-sized cats. The cheetahs are way too cool. :) So are the small mammals, and we got to see the vampire bats being fed. Cute little things.

We left right at five, when it closed, and stopped for food. We were only going to hang out at Olwyn's for a bit but GB put in The Incredibles, which was a lot of fun. Then we watched extras and deleted scenes for a while, and wound up getting home at eleven, and to bed way too late.

Didn't get as much done this weekend as we'd wanted to, but we had a lot of fun. We needed a lot of nothing, I think. And we got it.

Aww. I haven't been to ringing rocks in 15 years or more. Sounds like a fun weekend.

...Lewis made sweet-and-sour chicken.

Mmmmm, sweet-and-sour chicken... I'm glad we were there for it that other time. :9

Doing Nothing is good for you. It lets you unwind, pause, and regroup.

And you didn't even have to drive 3 hours to let me make you Do Nothing! You're getting better! ;>

Glad you guys had a good time at the zoo. Olwyn mentioned she was taking Mary, last we spoke, and it gave me some flashbacks to happy memories. Great place to unwind for the day, hope the crowds were minimal.

Additionally.... I have pictures in my digital camera of the rainbows from the way home from West Windsor Fair. Yes. There are rainbows in Newark. ;P
There was another not-as-bright rainbow over Port Jefferson this past weekend, on the way home as the ferry was departing, but the other end was in Danford's Marina. I didn't see a golden ferry or sailboat, so I'm guessing that was a fake rainbow. ;)

we still didn't get to see everything before they closed.
Isn't that always the case, though? These places never plan their blueprints according to a one-day walkthrough. It's like the Met Museum, I swear. ;)

Happy rainbows. :)
You know, Newark rainbows can also be found in the water by the dump there (oil in water).... Pew... :)
