[ Loiosh, an orange tabby wearing a green harness, is giving one of the tires of my van a VERY thorough sniffing. ]

I had to take a trip to Albuquerque earlier this week, & I was staying overnight, so of course the boys came along. We tucked ourselves up in a truck stop in Moriarty, & the next morning I took a little time to let the boys explore.

Loiosh had a lovely time — sniffing all over the van, then wandering through the weeds on the other side of the big driveway. I had to haul him back to get to my appointment on time, he was having so much fun.

[ He’s stretched out, leaning into a thicket of tall grass & other plants, nose buried in the greenery. ]

Tom, on the other hand …

[ Major Tom, a big grey tabby wearing a black harness, stands just outside the van’s side door. He’s giving the rest of the parking lot a wary look. ]

… the trucks were just a little much for him, I think.

[ The camera’s caught him smack in the middle of jumping into the van; his hindpaws have just not quite left the ground. ]

He declared that Nope …

[ He’s sitting in the van, looking out at me with a highly skeptical expression. ]

… he was just NOT doing this.

[ He’s flopped down under a chair in the back of the van, just his head & one forepaw visible. The look on his face has not changed appreciably from the last photo. ]

Monday I did a day trip to ABQ to plunder TJ's and look for some warm house shoes, the latter was a fail and the former was interesting: TJ's was limiting store occupancy to 48 people, so there was a three-layer queue out front! It moved pretty briskly, though.

Had an excellent dinner at Cheesecake Factory after TJ's, before failing to find shoes. But it was a very nice drive, to and from. Drove almost 450 miles, almost the distance to Phoenix, which is kind of bittersweet.

I skipped going there this trip -- I'm pretty well stocked up on pasta & that's the bulk of what I get there; the rest is usually 'wander around & see what looks good' which is counterindicated these days -- but when things are Less Exciting they're a favourite.

Most grocery stores around here are limiting occupancy. I don't know how useful that is given that ventilation is apparently the key, but I'm glad they're making an effort?

Alas for no warmy house shoes!

I think my wife is planning on getting me warmy house shoes for my birthday, now I have to figure out my shoe size!  I was hoping to get my feets measured while I was there but didn't.  The ones that I have are not very sturdy for my purposes and won't last another winter.

I splurged on a pair of Manitobah Mukluk moccasins last fall & WOW are they good. They're NOT cheap, but that's cos they'll last forEVer.
