scattered focus

I mean. There's Stuff going on, & it's Distracting, focus is ... not entirely a thing. But I am getting things done!

Above: shelves, for a set of shelves that will, once they're done, hold all my soap backstock. Given that currently that's sort of shoved in a corner in my workroom, this is a needed piece of furniture.

I've been working on that off & on in between working on Tyrava, because I keep running into 'waiting for X' problems: waiting for parts to get here, waiting for paint to dry, waiting for Inoru to sand a couple big things for me since I'm not allowed to use the power sander ever again ... you know how that goes. But having a couple projects going at once is nothing new.

Inoru got the inside of the side door sanded today, though, so I immediately got a couple coats of pale lavender paint on it:



I didn't do anything with the cabinet today, but I got some of it painted earlier this week:



Yesterday on the way back from the mailbox I stopped & grabbed a couple of old fence boards from the abandoned house, & the last thing I did today was sand one nice & smooth, & put it in as the first of many floorboards.

Not allowed to use the power sander EVER again? Like, not *ever*? Do I want to know how many people were injured and how much wood was adversely affected?

Turns out if I use a power sander too long (& by 'too long' I mean 'more than maybe half an hour in five-minute chunks') the vibration makes my hand turn off for three days!

I hate to break it to you, sweetie, but numbness is a sign of carpal tunnel syndrome. Pain is not a symptom. I noticed when I was making the 500 mile solo drive back and forth to Phoenix that my hands would get numb, but I didn't know what it meant. Came to a head 12 years ago when I was taking an algebra class in the fall and around November I could no longer hold a pencil to do my homework.

No problems typing, but couldn't use a pencil.

You might want to give yourself a writing test some morning after you rise and are warmed up but before you start working. Write a couple of pages of text, if you have nothing to write, copy a few pages of Edgar Allen Poe or something. See what happens.

Yeah, I had a pretty major typing-related carpal tunnel thing about ... ugh, twenty years ago? What even is time? I keep a pretty close eye on it, & I still have to be careful about typing. :P
