Soup...

I found it in The Fanny Farmer Cookbook, but I played with it until I liked it. Sometime I add a can of sliced olives, or some artichoke hearts. If you like zucchini (I hate it myself), that would probably go well too.
...it would have worked better with a much more butch bread - a good pumpernickel, maybe, or even a cut-up Philly soft pretzel...
Ooh, yes; real pretzels would be good! You have to be careful, though, to use a bread that is not sweet at all. A bakery near here that we really love makes bread that is just plain weird with the soup, because it's got honey in it...ick!
