You really need to come down here to Three Rivers Petroglyphs when it cools down more, say in another month or so. You'd have to leave the cats in your van while you hiked the main park area, but I think you'd find it very inspiring. I've shot literally hundreds of photos there, I use it as a test location when I get new camera equipment.

It's about half-way between Carrizoza and Tularosa, so a bit of a drive for you, but you're used to camping out in your van.
