12th Night Updatage

What with one thing and another packing Friday morning was...eventful, but eventually we got all of our stuff and
giselle0002 wedged into the car and left. We decided to stop at Mitsuwa on the way, and got mightily lost doing so, but it was a lovely sort of No Hurry day and so we didn't mind any. Bought a lot of pocky and some plates and bowls, which we had an entertaining time putting in the car.
Took an alternate route through the city, courtesy of
baronadhemar. Don't remember road names but it runs right up the east side of the island for a while and past the Cloisters. Also past several rather large expanses of stone wall with...entrances, I suppose, which clearly lead...somewhere. Decided not to think about that too hard.
No trucks which was lovely. Shortly we were out of the city and heading into Connecticut. Got to
baronadhemar's and hung out for a bit, then went out for a Very Entertaining dinner at a diner that he _swears_ usually isn't so exciting.
Stayed up until 2 or so sewing and drinking and laughing. Didn't sleep enough, but, well.
Adhemar got up earlier than us to go to the event, since he was the autocrat and all. Lewis and Gise let me sleep until later than they ought to have, but we still got to the event in good time. Check-in went well but then things were sort of exciting for a bit as we sorted out where to put the consult table and whose stuff _was_ that in the way anyway. Turns out most of it was Pam's, and thus not a problem; we got the table set up and us changed.
Only thing I saw in first court was Adhemar getting Brigantia'd. Well, I was right there sticking the tabard on him, so. It went well but Thorson scolded Adhemar for being overly wordy in the scroll. Hey, man, you shoulda seen the original...
Scrammed after that to run the table...which I wound up doing nearly none of. Big thanks to Gise for running the thing nearly all day. I _need_ to do something about the way my brain shuts down in big crowds, but I haven't the faintest idea what; it's not a problem I used to have.
Anyway, I ran upstairs in a brief attempt to catch Ankara being called to vigil; there was nothing of the sort going on and so I wandered off. Wound up in the balcony over the church sanctuary talking to
blaecstan's tweenager. She's a good kid, especially when you catch her somewhere quiet; when she's with a bunch of her friends she's nuts but it almost feels like a front. We had a nice talk about stuff and I watched her draw a bit. Then we realized that there was a Pelican meeting going on down in the sanctuary proper. Fortunately we couldn't hear a thing...
Once that was over I escaped, and ran into
liamstliam. Talked for a bit, then wandered around the merchant area, then I wound up on stage talking to
nazrynn for a while. She was running the A&S competition. A lot of lovely stuff, none of which I really got a good look at. Again, too much input and I couldn't concentrate. This is getting old.
Eventually Liam dragged me off somewhere quiet (with a _couch_, of all miracles) and we sat and talked for a while. Unnerving amounts of things in common. Sang a bit of John Valby. Not enough to get us in any trouble, though. He's a sweetie.
Wandered back to the table. By then Lewis was done fighting and was helping Gise. He did well; came in eleventh, and beat a couple of the people who wound up higher than him. And he had a good time.
By then it was getting on towards time to think about court, and Adhemar had already cornered me and explained to me that I should read a scroll. So I went up to the Royal Room and read the thing over five or six times. No problem. Or at least not much of a problem, once I figured out that the esses looked like effs and the tees looked like ees. And that 'rightwise' was missing the t entirely. And thing.
Ran back downstairs and was actually briefly useful at the table. Unfortunately not for long as it was time to get ready for court and I hadda run back _up_ the stairs again. Processed in with Anders and a lady herald whose name I never did get. Court went on for days but with five peerages you'll have this. Others have gone on about the various peerages so I shall remain mostly silent, except to say that I finally started tearing up when Ankara swore her fealty oath. And continued being vaguely leaky through all the tributes that followed.
I read a scroll in court. And didn't die or faint or anything. Adhemar said I did well. Apparently I could be heard in the back of the hall, though not on the balcony. It was...kinda fun. Helped I vaguely knew the guy I was reading the scroll for, I think.
Lewis went to talk to Anders about Blue Tyger stuff and I got the books and laptops loaded in the car. Gise wound up serving the feast and didn't get a lot to eat. The food was pretty good, though a lot of it wasn't to my taste. Still had plenty to eat.
The entertainment during the feast was cool, especially the mumming. Or whatever you call that.
We stayed until the bitter end (the drawback to crashing with the autocrat) and helped with cleanup a bunch. Got back to Adhemar's around 2 or 2:30 and sat around drinking and laughing until I'm not sure when. Slept a _lot_ the next morning.
Went to Baroness Siobhan's the next day for brunch and more laughter. At one point during a tale about Breadzilla Lewis was laughing so hard he fell right the hell off his chair. I wasn't far behind though there was a table in front of me. Still took me fifteen minutes to stop laughing long enough to hit my inhaler...
They have a big cool dog who I spent some time rolling around on the floor with. And three cats that I saw. And a big snake. :) And Siobhan collects stuffed animals who talk and sing. That was kinda...traumatic. But I survived. They have a dog. :)
We've been invited back and I hope we get a chance to visit soon. Too Much Fun.
Got home around seven. Realized cooking was out of the question and went out for food. Got home again around eight. Went the hell to bed at nine. Slept until ten the next morning. Wow.
Now I seem to be getting a cold. :P But I'll live.
