a visit to the Goblin Market

VagabondTabby: last night's [place I dreamed about] was definitely new, though; I found an instance of the Goblin Market in DC, of all places
HabQuchDu': ...they do have a robust subway system.
VagabondTabby:
it wasn't even underground, is the weird thing!
they rent a chunk of building & the courtyard in front of it, once a week, like a farmer's market
there's a big round room, lotta merchants set up around the outside, & I've seen some of those merchants in dreams before
you get performers in the middle; this time there was a band playing human & fae celtic music
& then jugglers
HabQuchDu':
... is it the Capitol in a better timeline, where people can actually, y'know, go in?
or else spiting Jefferson, his memorial's round
VagabondTabby:
nah, the building is modern-big-square-glass
it's possible the room isn't usually round
there's a bar in a room off to the right from where you go in, there was another band in there
& some merchants have their own rooms off the edges
there was ... ugh, I wish I could remember what was going on in the room off the back, it was LOUD
anyway it's all protected by a glamour
HabQuchDu': forge? woodwork?
VagabondTabby: nah people-loud
HabQuchDu': ah
VagabondTabby: oh right that was the bathhouse
HabQuchDu': makes sense
VagabondTabby
it started out being a thing for the local fae but then they started letting anyone in as long as they were, well, the right kinda people, & would keep their mouths shut
I ran into a guy I know who does NOT live anywhere near DC, but then he was just as surprised to see me there, so, well
there are a couple more merchants outside but they're mostly food & drink, & mostly that's for people hanging out & talking
the whole thing is disguised as a small boring crappy farmer's market, which is HILARIOUS to me
cos that mostly keeps people off but, like, that's the kind I'd pull over to go investigate
cos there's gotta be SOMETHING awesome going on there
HabQuchDu': otherwise it'd've stopped a DECADE ago!
VagabondTabby: exactly!
it's like flea markets & junk shops & stuff, the small crappy ones ALWAYS have the best
anyway I was wandering around grinning & muttering 'we need one of these in Caerthe'
(which is SCA Denver for those what don't know)
(couple minutes later, unrelated (or is it?) but amusing:)
VagabondTabby:
annnnnnnnnnd just as I finished up typing a dust devil went by ... one big enough it knocked over the two tables I have set up outside to work on, once of which was holding A BUNCH of boards, & blew a metal folding chair about ten feet
so uh oops?
anyway I yelled 'sorry' out the front door & everything is quiet again
