Winter Wolf
Spent yesterday at the Von Halstern Winter Wolf Tournament. A _lot_ of fun, more than I'd expected.
I set up a consultation table in the main hall. Only got one actual sub, but talked to several people about names and devices so I feel pretty good about it. Got in a bit of writing once I'd finished conflict checking a couple of things but Tim called on the cell phone and by the time I got back inside the battery had died. 840 words but I'm far enough ahead that I'm not worried about it, really.
Had a happy talk with Tim while Lewis was inside packing up my books. I felt kinda bad about that but he said he didn't mind. He was in a pretty good mood all day even though his back was still too crappy for him to fight. He marshalled, and then had a good long talk with Sir Mitchell that I'm hoping will help his head a bit. Mitch gave him a backrub, too. Yow. That man is scarily strong.
There was an A&S display but I barely looked at it. I think I'm still rather burnt on the A&S thing. :P I hope that goes away eventually. I did talk to Brynn (excuse me, _Baroness_ Brynn :) for a bit and that was good. She's such a sweetie.
But, gah, do Muriel and Kamilla intimidate me. They're nice and thing, but they just look so much better than I manage to. I find myself wanting to move away from the 14th century stuff just because so much is known that you have to be _really_ good to stand out at all...and like I can fit garb well enough to manage that, or _want_ to, with this damn gut I have. :P
So for now I'll stick to heraldry and writing. Had a couple people ask what I was up to, and one lady even asked me if I was published...yow. Not remotely, though I'm hopin'.
The dayboard and feast were both stunning, of course. Dietrich is a cooking god. The sight of him and Magnus and ... oh hell, I don't know the other guy's name ... all running around in cooks' whites was funny as hell. But they produced good hot food at appropriate intervals and wow.
I watched very little of the fighting, which I'm kind of regretting now, but I didn't want to move the table outside 'cos it was pretty chilly. Oh, well - maybe at 100 Minutes I'll get a bit of a break, since there will be other heralds there, and go watch things.
After the feast a kind and generous Von Halstern whose name I _think_ is George gave me a half-shot of a _very_ nice scotch, so I was a little fuzzy but quite happy for the rest of the night. Isabeau, who grew up in the area, gave us directions home that involved a rather small country road but got us home in about half the time it took us to get there. Fortunately Ellesbeth was awake _and_ sober so she got to help Lewis navigate. I fell asleep in the back seat.
Got a little carsick even though I was lying down so I went right, and I mean _right_, to bed. No computer, didn't even check on Friederich Eisenmaus (who is fine; in fact his fur looks better than it used to), didn't pet Miki more than a little. He got snugglings this morning, though.
Lewis is on his way to the Wreath meeting; I felt far too much like crap to want to go. Feel bad about that, but, well. Spent the night sneezing _and_ coughing which means I likely caught another cold on top of the first one. Probably going to take a nap at some point today. Yurgh.
