okay FINE it’s too early for a real Christmas miracle & I don’t know if Yule comes with miracles but probably the cold had something to do with it so

YES that is MAJOR TOM & in that picture he is LAYING ON MY LAP

for the VERY FIRST TIME

I basically froze when he hopped up there. He’s been willing to use me as a highway for a while, & to lay near my feet on the couch for a couple weeks, but this? TOTALLY NEW.

They’re terrible pictures & I don’t even care, I’m just glad I had my phone within reach so I could record the moment.

He stayed there for a while, too, even after Loiosh decided he needed some of Momma’s lap too.

It was … fraught.

I mean. The EARS.

But nobody punched anybody, & eventually they settled down.

Eventually Loiosh buggered off, but even when Tom got up all he did was rearrange himself.

He’s done it a time or two since then, too. & let me tell you have an entire MASSIVE tomcat on your lap will keep you NICELY warm … but better hope you don’t hafta pee anytime soon.

I got the serious warm fuzzies when I read this post for the first time. Earning the love of a more skittish cat is genuinely awe-inspiring, isn't it?

The regal lovebug of a Daisy in the icon does not qualify, even a little, as skittish. Lap kitty, however, yes indeed.

Awe-inspiring really is the right term. He trusts me SO much & it's really amazing.

Unrelated, I know Loiosh is an orangey tiger kitty, and Hades is a house panther of super fluff, but what color(s) is Major Tom? I forget! I gather from delightful comments flying around that he's a stripey tabbyness, and... why do I think somebody said silvery grey once?

He is, indeed, a silvery grey tabby. His toebeans are all black, & his nose is pink with black all round, so it looks like a lil heart. His eyes are yellow & he still has just a bit of 'tomcat head' -- the big cheeks. He's got a couple of not-very-visible scars on his nose; they're a lot of why he snores, I think. You can still feel they're there, though. & the fur behind his ears is THE SOFTEST.
