*grumbles*

GreatestJournal loads halfway and sits there.

JournalFen doesn't even pretend to try to load.

InsaneJournal got the closest, and even that fell down on the captcha -- I get no image.

And all of the backup-to-local programs I'm seeing are Windows or Mac.

What's a girl to do?

What OS are you using?

Try one of these?

A couple say "platform independent", that might help...

Also, it doesn't look like LJ is about to vanish.

trust in Allah, but tie up your camel

i dont think anything will happen, but backups are always a good idea

Oh yeah. I've been using LJArchive for years, and this was a good time to hit that 'sync' button.

Try LJ Charm: http://ljcharm.sf.net/

You might want to use 1.7.0, though, instead of 1.8.0, 'cause I'm having trouble getting 1.8.0 to work correctly.

There is also 1.9.0 and apparently some patches somewhere. Mind you, I still can't get it to work right, either. :-/

I wouldn't worry too much right now... The first story to break on this greatly overhyped the lay-offs (and has since been invisibly edited to half their former numbers, which they apparently just pulled out of a random orifice). LJ is one of the most popular blogging sites in Russia, and they're now owned by a Russian company. I don't think they're going anywhere soon, just tying up loose ends over here. *HUGS* :)
