Remember when shooting in the snow, +1 to +2 overexposure compensation is needed.  The light meter by default wants to produce 18% gray tones, without overexposing, snow turns to gray.  You can do this through manual exposure, exposure bracketing, or exposure compensation.  But I don't shoot Nikon, so you'll have to consult the manual and figure it out.  Just remember to turn it off when you stop shooting in snow! :)
