Congrats on the saw! Those things are quite handy, I have one myself. I think the first thing I used it for was to cut a plastic cutting board in half! :-) It wouldn't fit in the dishwasher, the two half-boards are used very heavily.
We needed to do a bunch of 45 degree miter cuts, and I absolutely must do some board replacement on our decks, and it wasn't that expensive. I thought I'd bought a battery-powered one, and was ready to take it back, but when I saw how the AC one had a much longer reach and was a lot less expensive, I kept it.
